Magpies

One for sorrow, two for joy – commissioned as a wedding anniversary gift, they had to come as a pair.

A complex assembly of blocks of wood was required to achieve the markings of a magpie.  The dark wood is Wenge, reclaimed from parquet flooring from the National Theatre in London.  This is contrasted against against the very pale sycamore.

Each bird sits on a perch of oak that is shaped to allow the magpies to nestle in a variety of poses.
