Kingfisher

The kingfisher has been designed and made exclusively for  Twentytwentyone.

A number of bird options were explored for this project, before settling on this design which brings together the naturally contrasting tones of walnut, sycamore and yew, but also introduces flashes of vibrant blue.

 

Each piece of wood is cut and sanded before being assembled to the block from which the profile is cut.  The blue pin stripes are achieved by slicing, staining, and then laminating the sycamore back together again.

Each bird is handmade and each piece of wood has its unique natural grain. The birds are then given an oil finish which is then buffed back to a soft sheen making them soft and tactile.
